Liberty Community Gardens (LCG) is a nonprofit organization that manages 60+ community garden plots in Battery Park City, in Lower Manhattan. We have a diverse membership, which includes local schools.
History & Press
Liberty Community Gardens were founded in 1987, not long after Battery Park City’s first buildings opened.
The gardens have endured 9/11, Hurricane Sandy, multiple relocations, and endless neighborhood development and reconstruction, and have always bloomed reliably and abundantly each spring, expressing life, beauty, diversity and tranquility in an unlikely spot – next to West Street and in the shadow of the World Trade Center.
